Which units this covers, and how to tell yours is one of them
Every answer below is scoped to these model identifiers. A neighbouring model in the same line can use a different part, a different reset sequence or a different radio, so matching the identifier before following a procedure is the step that decides whether the rest of the page applies to you.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- Platform — macOS on Apple Silicon (M4)
- A 13-inch MacBook Air with M4, running macOS. Unified memory is soldered (not upgradeable); native arm64 apps run directly, Intel apps via Rosetta 2; no native x86 Windows.
- Fanless — throttles under sustained load
- Fanless design throttles under long heavy loads by design; brief tasks stay fast. The Pro holds speed longer for sustained work.
- Ports & charging
- Two Thunderbolt/USB-4 ports and MagSafe. The most portable Mac.
- Power path
- Internal or removable battery. Every capability that costs current — night vision, higher stream quality, longer recordings, frequent events — is paid for in runtime, so a change in behaviour after a settings change is usually a power consequence rather than a fault. Cold weather reduces usable capacity sharply.

Questions that only have an answer for the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M4)
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
Can I run Windows on my MacBook Air M4?+
Not standard PC Windows natively — Apple Silicon Macs cannot boot the normal x86 version of Windows (there is no Boot Camp on M-series). You can run the Arm version of Windows inside a virtual machine (e.g. Parallels), which handles many apps via emulation, but it is not the same as a native Windows PC and some x86 software or games will not work. For full native Windows you would need a PC. macOS apps and Intel-Mac apps (via Rosetta 2) run fine.
