The cursor on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon moves by itself.+

That is usually TrackPoint drift — the little red pointing nub can register slow movement from residual pressure, especially just after use or with temperature changes, and it recalibrates itself if you take your finger off it for a moment. It is normal, not a fault. If it bothers you, you can lower the TrackPoint sensitivity or disable it in the mouse/TrackPoint settings and use the trackpad. Updating drivers via Lenovo Vantage can also help.
