What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- Model — Nintendo Switch 2 (BEE-001)
- The new-generation Switch — a larger screen, far more power, magnetically-attaching Joy-Con 2 controllers, and up to 4K output when docked (with HDR and higher frame rates). It plays Switch 2 games and most original Switch games, but original-Switch accessories and docks are not cross-compatible.
- Storage — big, microSD Express
- A much larger internal storage than the original Switch, and it requires the faster microSD Express cards (not standard microSD) for expansion — using a plain microSD card is a common 'card not working' cause.
- Not cross-compatible with old dock
- The Switch 2 uses its OWN dock (with a fan and 4K/HDMI 2.1 output); the original Switch dock does not drive the Switch 2 to TV. Use the Switch 2 dock.

Questions that only have an answer for the Nintendo Switch 2
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
My microSD card won't work in my Switch 2.+
The Switch 2 requires microSD Express cards, which are faster than the standard microSD cards the original Switch used — a regular microSD card will be rejected or not usable for games. Make sure the card is specifically labelled 'microSD Express'. This is the most common Switch 2 storage-card problem, and it is a compatibility requirement, not a fault with the console or the card.
