Which units this covers, and how to tell yours is one of them

Every answer below is scoped to these model identifiers. A neighbouring model in the same line can use a different part, a different reset sequence or a different radio, so matching the identifier before following a procedure is the step that decides whether the rest of the page applies to you.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.

Model — Xbox Series X (disc)
The flagship current Xbox — targets 4K up to 120fps, 1TB custom NVMe SSD, and a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc drive. Plays Series/Xbox One/many 360 and original Xbox titles.
Storage expansion
The 1TB SSD fills fast with modern games; expand with the official Storage Expansion Card (a proprietary card that matches the internal speed) — a USB drive can store but not play Series X/S games (only older Xbox One titles play from USB).
Network
Dual-band Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet; wired is most reliable for downloads and online. Quick Resume lets several games suspend at once.

Exact questions

Questions that only have an answer for the Xbox Series X

Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.

My Xbox Series X storage is full — can I use a USB drive?+

For Series X/S games, no — those games must run from the internal SSD or the official Storage Expansion Card, which matches the internal speed. A regular USB drive can store Series X/S games (to move them back later) and can directly play older Xbox One and back-compat titles, but not current-gen games. So add a Storage Expansion Card for more current-gen space, and use USB for archives and older games.
