What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- Type — thermal LABEL printer (no ink, no toner)
- This is a LABEL printer, not a document printer — it prints labels using DIRECT THERMAL technology (heat on special thermal label rolls), so it has NO ink and NO toner. Ink/toner, printhead-clog, colour and scan/copy symptoms do NOT apply; it only prints labels from DK label rolls.
- Thermal labels & fading
- It uses Brother DK label rolls; the printer detects genuine rolls. Direct-thermal labels can fade over time or with heat/sunlight — that is the media, not a fault. A blank print usually means the label roll is loaded wrong-side or is not genuine/detected.
- Connectivity
- Wi-Fi/Ethernet/Bluetooth/USB; used with P-touch Editor/label software. 'Offline' is usually a network/queue issue.

Questions that only have an answer for the Brother QL-820NWB label printer
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
My Brother QL-820NWB prints blank labels.+
Blank labels on a direct-thermal printer usually mean the label roll is loaded the wrong way (the printable/thermal side must face the print head) or the roll is not a genuine Brother DK roll the printer can detect. Reload a genuine DK roll the correct way and make sure it is seated so the sensor reads it. There is no ink or toner to check — it prints by heating thermal labels — so it never clogs, but it only works with the right thermal media loaded correctly.
