Which units this covers, and how to tell yours is one of them

Every answer below is scoped to these model identifiers. A neighbouring model in the same line can use a different part, a different reset sequence or a different radio, so matching the identifier before following a procedure is the step that decides whether the rest of the page applies to you.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.

Power — WIRED (needs doorbell wiring)
The 2nd-gen WIRED Nest Doorbell connects to existing doorbell wiring (it has no battery in the wired version), giving 24/7 wired operation. So charging symptoms do not apply; a dead unit is a wiring/transformer issue (it needs a compatible transformer/chime).
On-device AI
It identifies people, packages, animals and vehicles on-device (some alert types need a Nest Aware subscription for full features and event history). Managed in the Google Home app.
Recording needs Nest Aware
Live view and basic alerts are free, but recorded event/video HISTORY requires a Nest Aware subscription — 'my events aren't saved' is usually no subscription, not a fault. 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Power path
Low-voltage transformer through the existing doorbell circuit. The transformer's VA rating, not its age, decides whether the device can transmit at full power; an under-rated one supplies standby current and browns out during events. A mechanical chime in the circuit may require the manufacturer's bypass kit.
Wi-Fi
Joins on 2.4 GHz. A phone on 5 GHz cannot hand credentials to it reliably during setup, and a router that steers clients between bands under one network name will produce intermittent joins that look like a hardware fault.
Siting
Rated for outdoor installation. Water ingress at the cable entry, corrosion at the contacts and temperature at the extremes of the rated range all present first as intermittent electrical faults, not as visible damage.
Service tier
Some capabilities are subscription-gated. A feature that stops working on a date with no other change is worth checking against the plan's renewal before it is treated as a fault.
Microphone
Carries a microphone with a hardware mute. A muted microphone is a physical switch state that no app setting overrides, and is the first thing to check for any voice or audio symptom.

Questions that only have an answer for the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)

Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.

My wired Nest Doorbell isn't saving video history.+

Recorded video and event history on Nest cameras and doorbells require a Nest Aware subscription — without it you get live view and recent notifications, but not saved recordings to scroll back through. So 'my clips aren't there' is usually the missing subscription, not a fault. Subscribe to Nest Aware in the Google Home app for event or 24/7 recording. Being the wired model, it also records continuously only with the wired power and the appropriate Nest Aware plan.
