SimpliSafe Extra Siren troubleshooting
Choose the symptom actually shown by the serial number is inside the battery compartment. SimpliSafe Gen 3 system component; sensors reach the Base Station over SimpliSafe's own sub-GHz radio rather than Wi-Fi, so a router problem and a sensor problem are separate investigations. Monitoring plan, cellular backup and camera generation vary. Error codes remain separate records because the same characters can mean different things on another platform.

Which units this covers, and how to tell yours is one of them
Every answer below is scoped to these model identifiers. A neighbouring model in the same line can use a different part, a different reset sequence or a different radio, so matching the identifier before following a procedure is the step that decides whether the rest of the page applies to you.
- Model numbers and patterns
- the serial number is inside the battery compartment
- What that covers
- SimpliSafe Gen 3 system component; sensors reach the Base Station over SimpliSafe's own sub-GHz radio rather than Wi-Fi, so a router problem and a sensor problem are separate investigations. Monitoring plan, cellular backup and camera generation vary.
- Not applicable to this hardware
- This SimpliSafe Extra Siren does not have the hardware for: will not stay connected to Wi-Fi; does not respond to voice control; will not connect through Matter, HomeKit or another platform. Those symptoms have no page here for this model rather than a page that guesses.
Published specification
What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- Volume
- Reaches up to 105 dB — louder than the Base Station's own siren, which is the reason to add one. The other reason is location: it puts noise somewhere the Base Station is not.
- Battery
- 4 AA Alkaline batteries, required, with up to 1 year of life. Note 'required' rather than 'included' — this device has no mains option at all, so battery maintenance is not optional on it.
- Siting
- Water-resistant for outdoor use — one of the few SimpliSafe components not restricted to indoors. 3.5 x 5.87 x 1.5 inches, peel-and-stick.
- Beyond alarms
- SimpliSafe documents customising it to mimic door chimes, so it has a use in normal operation rather than only during an alarm.
- Power path
- Internal or removable battery. Every capability that costs current — night vision, higher stream quality, longer recordings, frequent events — is paid for in runtime, so a change in behaviour after a settings change is usually a power consequence rather than a fault. Cold weather reduces usable capacity sharply.
- Radio
- A manufacturer-specific sub-GHz radio to the base station rather than Wi-Fi. It travels further through structure than Wi-Fi does and is unaffected by router changes — which means a Wi-Fi problem and a sensor problem are genuinely separate investigations here.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the SimpliSafe Extra Siren
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
How loud is the Extra Siren?+
Up to 105 dB, which is louder than the Base Station's own siren. Volume is one reason to add one; placement is the other — a siren outside or at the far end of the house covers ground the Base Station cannot.
Can the Extra Siren go outside?+
Yes — SimpliSafe specifies it as water-resistant for outdoor use, which makes it one of the few components not restricted to indoors. Water resistant still is not waterproof, so a position with some shelter will outlast one without.
What batteries does it need?+
4 AA Alkaline, and SimpliSafe lists them as required rather than included. There is no mains option, so battery maintenance is not optional on this device — and at up to 1 year of life, it is an annual job.
Can I use it for anything other than alarms?+
Yes — SimpliSafe documents customising it to mimic door chimes. That also has a practical benefit: a siren you hear operating in normal use is a siren you know still works, which is not true of one that only ever sounds during an alarm.
