What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.

Model — Series 9 (41/45mm)
A recent standard Watch with the S9 chip enabling the Double Tap gesture (tap thumb and finger to answer calls, etc.) and on-device Siri. Full sensor set and speaker/mic; GPS or GPS+Cellular.
Cellular is optional (a variant)
GPS-only or GPS+Cellular — cellular troubleshooting applies only to the cellular model with a plan.
Double Tap
Double Tap is an S9-and-newer feature; if it is not working, enable it in Settings › Gestures and note it needs the watch on your wrist and the screen active. Older watches do not have it.
Backup path
Carries a cellular backup path for alarm signalling. Backup carries signalling, not bandwidth — so the system can report itself online and monitored while everything that needs broadband fails, and can stay in that state for weeks unnoticed.

Exact questions

Questions that only have an answer for the Apple Watch Series 9

Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.

Double Tap isn't working on my Apple Watch Series 9.+

Double Tap needs to be enabled (Settings › Gestures › Double Tap), the watch must be on your wrist with the display awake, and it works with the primary action shown on screen — so it will not trigger if the screen is off or the wrist is down. It also does not work while charging. Make sure watchOS is updated. It is a Series 9 (and newer) feature, so older Apple Watches will not offer it.
